Our society cannot function if women disappear into the thin air, they have been the pride and continue to be. Their contribution remains immortal and is embraced until parallel lines meet, they are the strongest yet most loveable human being. We all are dependent and can’t survive without them. Such one contribution is of Sonam Chamaria who has inspired many by fulfilling her bag of dreams.
“You are Fire!
Don’t believe these mere mortals.
They want to put you on a pedestal
and sing paeans to you;
later they would burn you
in the altar of that same fire!
Stand away and stand-alone!
You are limitless!
But these mortals can only limit your sky!
You are the Universe!
But they will only give you a little space!
Break free! It’s a trap!
They want to cage you!
Because they are afraid of your real power!
You are a woman.
You are the fire!
You are all-conquering.
You are all-powerful!
You are Supreme!
You were not born to be a mere beauty queen!!”
Please assist us with your introduction and a bit about yourself.
I am a 30 year old girl with a lot of dreams. I am a professional Tarot reader (SoulSpeak Tarot) with over 14 yrs of experience. I am also Chakra healer, a doodle artist (SoulArt with Sonam), a blogger and a full-time investment banker. Most importantly, in December 2019, I published my debut ebook ‘From Stressed to Sorted’, which is a new-age guide to tackle stressful situations in daily life by implementing practical hacks that take less than 5 minutes to do. A unique blend of fiction, non-fiction, handmade doodles and happiness hacks. I like to call it, ‘self-help without the gyan’.
How were you as a kid? How have been your childhood and your transformation personally as well as professionally?
I am the youngest of 3 sisters, and hence, quite pampered. I had a very happy, secure, and joyous childhood. My mother, whom I unfortunately lost in June 2019, was a loving soul who always encouraged and supported me in all I did. My dad is the purest human being I have ever known, and he ensured we grew up in a setting free from restrictions of any kind. And I truly believe that all I am today, is a product of growing up in such a nurturing environment.
What career have you always wanted to pursue since your adolescence? Are you pursuing that now? If not, what made you change your mind?
When I was in high school, I wanted to make a career in Economics. And this is why I chose to do my graduation and Masters in Economics & Finance. I guess that somewhere down the line, I lost interest in Economics and got drawn towards Finance. I am currently in the field of Finance (Equity research) .
How did you find your way in the profession you are in at the moment?
It happened by chance if I may say so. Equity research happened to be the first job I landed on returning to India after my MSc in UK./
Apart from the professional career, how did that assist you to wake up the writer in you?
My job entails a lot of writing and I guess, at some level, it helped me in honing my writing skills.
When did you realize you can write? What topic did you choose and why?
I was always into writing – ever since I was a child. It probably stems from the fact that I have been an avid reader ever since I could read. While in school, English was one of my favourite subjects. And I would look forward to penning down a poem or an essay. I would also represent my school in various inter-school writing competitions. One of the most impactful pieces I wrote was in one such competition. The topic given was “Black”.
After publishing, have you ever felt that you could have omitted or changed the portions of the manuscript to maintain untraceable to readers? If yes, what and why?
Nope, never. I have been very happy with my book’s script.
Please throw some light on your present projects and future meal on your plate.
At present I am working on quite a few things. I am looking for paperback publishers for my ebook ‘From Stressed to Sorted’. I have a lot of interviews and features lined up in the next few weeks. I am trying to be more active on my YouTube channel (please check it out!), while juggling a lot of Tarot appointments. I have sent in some of my work for publishing as part of anthologies, which should be out in a couple of months. I have ongoing collaborations with a few platforms as well, including an online LitFest by Ne8x. And lastly, I am planning on starting with my second book.
Please share your achievements with us.
I have been interviewed on various platforms such as Book Reader Magazine, Spirit Mania, Bawler. My work has been featured on numerous platforms like Women’s Web (where I won a short story contest), Thought Catalog, Story Pint, Bela magazine. I have been a part of a mental health series on YouTube called “Humanity ki Chain”. I have been nominated for ‘Author of the Year 2020’. I was awarded the Influential Women 2K20 Award in March 2020 for my contribution to Literature by The Spirit Mania. My blog SoulSpeak with Sonam has been read in 151 countries, which is a huge personal achievement for me. Please share a message for our readers
My message to all readers of The Cognition Tree is simple – go after your dreams. Don’t wait for anyone, anything or any event to happen, before you start chasing your dreams. I learnt it the hard way. My mother’s loss made me realise how short life is, and how we cannot afford to waste any time, and that propelled me to go after my dreams. I hope you find the courage to do the same 😊
